The 2006 Internet Measurement Conference is a two and a half day event focusing on Internet measurement and analysis, following on the successes of five previous Internet Measurement Workshops and Conferences.

The conference will be held in the Marina Palace Hotel located on Leblon Beach in Leblon, one of the most traditional and charming parts of Rio. The beautiful Ipanema and Copacabana beaches are also nearby.

The conference reception will be at Rio Scenarium - Culture Pavillion, a 19th-century building located in the culturally rich Lapa District. The conference banquet will be at Barra Brasa Rio, which is within walking distance of the hotel. A map of how to walk to the Barra Brasa is here.

  • Registration: To register, please complete this form and fax to: +55 31 3499 5858. Note that Fax registration ends Monday October 23. There will be on-site registration at the conference, but please register as early as possible!

    • NEW: Local Transportation Information: From the airport, take the blue taxi (e.g., Cootramo Radio Taxi). You can buy a ticket at the airport (before and just after leaving the baggage claim area). This is a flat rate service, that depends only on the district to which you are going. The conference hotel is located at Leblon. The price from the international airport to Leblon is 72 reais.

      It is strongly recomended NOT to take buses, or the yellow cabs. The yellow cabs may be cheaper, but you pay by the meter. If they make a wrong turn, if traffic is jammed or for any other reason, the cost may be significantly higher. The blue taxis usually provide a much better service, overall.

    • Note: The cutoff date for hotel reservations is September 26. There are other events in town at the same time, and the number of rooms blocked is limited, so reserve as soon as possible (and before the cutoff).

    • VISA INFORMATION:
      Many attendees will need a visa. Visas are required for citizens of the U.S., China, India, and others. You can get either a tourist visa or a business visa, but a business visa is recommended. In both cases you may need a letter of invitation from Brazil. An invitation letter can be requested by visiting this page.
      U.S. citizens should be aware that to obtain a visa they will need to determine which Brazilian embassy in the US covers their geographic region. You can only apply to your assigned embassy. To find your assigned embassy, please visit this page.
      If your assigned embassy is too far from your home for you to visit in person, you can use a visa agency. There are many companies that provide Brazilian visa acquisition services. (A simple search with keywords "brazil visa service" results in many such companies.) These services are regionally-based so select one near you.
      N ations who do not need a visa to enter Brazil on tourism include those from: Andorra, Argentina; Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Morocco, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, San Marino, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, UK, Vatican and Venezuela.
